MATT Yarrow magnificently fought off competition from 47 players to win the Portland Easter Open with a 5-2 victory over Sam Ward in the final.

Yarrow, took home the £250 winner’s cheque after beating Ward, who was also runner-up in the Weymouth ADC singles play-offs a week earlier.

Yarrow reached the final after beating two-time champion Lee Turle 4-2, while Ward also beat James Lane 4-2.

In the final, Yarrow outscored Ward to go 3-0 up but Ward replied by closing the gap to 3-2.

However, Yarrow again stretched his legs, displaying heavy scoring and finishing to win 5-2.

Players and spectators from across Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset managed to raise £239 for Weldmar Hospice Trust after a raffle containing a Winmau dartboard signed by John Lowe and the late Eric Bristow, which was won by Portland’s Mark and Melanie Honeyman.
