CAMERON Murray praised the Weymouth fans, saying they deserve promotion after he signed a deal to stay at the Terras for the 2019/20 National League South season.

Murray signed from Dorchester at the turn of the year and scored three goals as he helped the Terras to promotion to the sixth tier of English football.

He said: “When I signed for Weymouth the main aim was to help the club gain promotion so to achieve that has been great both personally but of course for everyone involved with the club and the fans certainly deserve it!”

Overall, Murray is satisfied with how the season went, which saw him join the Magpies in the summer, before moving to the Terras in mid-January.

He said: “This season in general has been really good especially considering I was coming down south as a bit of an unknown.

“I knew I had to try and hit the ground running.

“I feel I’ve certainly done that.”

The new deal will see Murray return to the sixth tier of English football, which he has prior experience of with FC United of Manchester in the National League North, and Murray images its southern counterpart will be similar.

Murray said: “I have played in the Conference north which is a strong league and I imagine the south will be similar, so the experience of playing at that level can’t do me any harm.

“But to be fair the majority of the squad have played at higher levels so I’m sure we are ready and excited for what the league brings.

“But at the end of the day we will likely do the things which have gained us the success this season.

“I’m certainly looking forward to it.”
