DORCHESTER Town right-back Kyle Egan has penned a new one-year contract with the Magpies.

The attacking defender was voted the players’ player of the season for the previous campaign, as well as the supporters’ player of the month in March and April.

Former Exeter City youngster Egan was a virtual ever-present figure in the Magpies’ side last season having started 50 of 53 fixtures, in doing so notching his 100th Dorchester appearance in April.

Egan said: “I’m buzzing just to get it over the line. It’s always been my intention to stay at Dorch – it’s just been getting a couple of things sorted, but I’m over the moon to be here for another year.”

“Especially after having a bit of an up and down season, to finish strong was really good and obviously getting the players’ player of the season award and having the respect of the lads means a lot personally, so I’m really glad it finished on a high.

“I understand the way Callum (Brooks, boss) wants to play, and he understands my game. I think it works to my strengths the way he wants to play.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him for a whole year, and hopefully he can keep pushing me and improve me more as a player.”

Brooks said: “I think it’s fantastic news for the club to retain a player with Kyle’s capabilities. Some of the performances I’ve seen during the latter part of the season while I’ve been here were as good as anyone I’ve seen at this level.

“He fits into the mould of fast-paced, highly entertaining, attacking football that we like to play, and he balances that out with being a top defender too. Again, he’s a player than can only get better, he’s totally bought into what I’m trying to do, so it was one of my priorities as soon as the season finished was to retain Kyle.

“For the 10 games I’ve been here, he was absolutely outstanding and a joy to watch. It’s another huge statement of intent the fact that Kyle wants to stay here when he’s naturally had interest from elsewhere.

"It just demonstrates the feel-good factor that is circling this football club at the moment, so for me, this is one of just pure excitement and hopefully our supporters feel that way too.”
