BILLY Hayne picked up two awards including player of the season, as Weymouth & Portland Rugby Club held their end-of-season awards ceremony.

Hayne also picked up players’ player of the year, with Andy Bowditch, Jason Hoskins, Karl Sankey, Lewis Allan, Tim Comben, Kevin Leatham and Alex Toms the other winners.

The president of the club Willie Wildash and coaches spoke about the club’s campaign and their aims to improve for next season.

The year just gone was one of consolidation, as the Seahorses finished sixth in the Dorset & Wilts One South table.

Bowditch finished top try scorer with 13 thanks to a double in the final game of the season, a 66-17 defeat at Bournemouth Thirds, with the award presented by coach Anthony Cowburn.

Toms picked up the award for most points scored and Comben picked up the award for Barry Ross-Mackenzie’s tackle of the year, while Allan won best back of the year. Beynon was the best newcomer of the year, Hoskins picked up most improved player, and finally Leatham was recognised for best forward of the year.
