SAINT SECURITY 20

GEORGE BAR AND GRILL 33

GEORGE Bar and Grill got the better of Premier Division basement side Saint Security 33-20 in a match dominated by the defensive efforts of both teams.

The sides struggled to make the most of their attack as the defenders were on top form; in particular, George’s Jenny Ayles (WD) made some excellent interceptions to gain possession for her team. Saint’s attackers pushed ahead, passing with superb accuracy to take a small lead.

George’s GA, Rachel Lockwood, used clever tactical play to overcome a tight defence, with precise long-shots allowing her team to gain the lead.

Saint’s Jade Lewendon (WD) upped her game to help feed the ball into her shooters. Despite this, George remained ahead; good use of space in the D and strong shooting from Rachel Scarff (GS) saw them increase their lead.

Saints’ supporters shouted encouragement from the sidelines as the C, Becky Hallet, showed her skill in the midcourt. Saints were unable to take advantage of crucial opportunities, falling behind the incredible George who went on to secure the win.

Division Two

BEAMINSTER BRAVES 26

WJNC 26

WJNC fought out an entertaining 26-26 stalemate against Beaminster Braves, with both teams unable to complete comebacks in Division Two.

Both teams kept good control of their centre passes to ensure they got the points. Braves’ Sacha Harrison (GS) worked well to position herself close to the post and secure an early lead for her team. WJNC’s shooters made the most of scoring opportunities, seeing the teams draw even by the end of the quarter.

Braves were quick to take the lead, scoring from WJNC’s centre passes. WJNC fought back with well-timed interceptions from Amber Hider (GK) and Emma Wood (WD), but were unable to secure the points needed to get ahead of their opponents.

Back in their stride, WJNC easily intercepted the overhead throws favoured by Braves – allowing them to secure turnovers and a small lead.

WJNC dominated the final quarter in terms of possession; however, Braves made every ball count as they managed to lower the score difference, but neither team could get ahead of the other, keeping them to a draw.
