WEYMOUTH Sailing Club threw open the doors of its Nothe Parade HQ for its annual open day.
The event was part of the RYA’s ‘Push The Boat Out’ initiative to promote sailing as a healthy sport and pastime.
New and prospective members plus those who just wanted to have a look round were welcomed with a cup of tea and a selection of cakes made by members.
There was the chance for visitors who wanted to experience sailing to go out in club members’ boats. Trying their hands at setting sails or helming, they got the opportunity to try out the sport in the Olympic waters of Weymouth Bay.
Back on dry land quite a few people took the opportunity to join the club, which has club boats available free of charge for members to sail in.
As a sailing charity, WSC’s aim is to promote and facilitate community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities for sailing to those resident in the local and greater Weymouth area and surrounding regions.
Spokesperson Chris Hogg said: “It was great to see the smiling faces of people coming off the water.
“We certainly lived up to our aim of promoting sailing, and judging by the membership take-up on the day we succeeded in bringing the sport to more people in the area.”
Reduced priced membership is available up until the end of May as part of the promotion.
