DORCHESTER Town have announced that Sam Lanahan has agreed terms to return to the Magpies for the 2019/20 Evo-Stik Southern Premier South season.

The versatile midfielder, who re-joins for a third spell having spent the previous campaign with Gosport Borough, has made over 100 appearances for the club after initially making his debut in November 2013.

After agreeing terms, Lanahan said: “I couldn’t wait really as soon as I heard they were interested.

"To be fair, this is my third time here now and it’s a great club - I really enjoy it.

"My family like it here as well – they’ve always told me ‘go back to Dorchester’ because to be honest that’s where they know I’m happy.

"I think that’s probably where you get your best football is where you’re happy, so I couldn’t wait to come back really.

“I know a lot of friends who have worked with Cal and they all speak very highly of him – I’ve heard he’s a very good coach and when I’ve dealt with him, he’s been great really.

"He’s been upfront and honest the whole way through that instils a lot of trust in a manager, so straight away we’re in a good place.

“To see all the players that are coming in like Charlie Davis, who I’ve played with before, and Dan Strugnell – they’re good signings, and you’re actually building on a good team already with what Cal (Brooks, boss) did when he came here last (season).

"He had 10 games to go and I remember speaking to him before he signed - he said it was a big ask but he did it, so fair play to him.

“It’s a good squad and I know most of them, so hopefully we’ll be able to achieve bigger things.”

Speaking on his 13th signing of the summer, manager Brooks said: “It’s a no brainer with Lanners – we’ve been in talks since the end of the season and it’s evident how much affection that he has for this football club, and at the same time how much affection there is for Lanners around this football club.

“Doubled with the fact of how honest and hardworking he is as a player, he’s also got versatility as well, which is key when you’re looking at building a squad.

“He’s a lad who I’m really looking forward to working with and I know he’ll add to the group – he’s a very popular character in local football and during my chats with him it’s evident how desperate he is to do well for Dorchester.”
