MARTINSTOWN captain Sam Kershaw is targeting a succession of Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League wins ahead of a clash with Broadstone at Lower Ashton Farm tomorrow (1pm).

Kershaw’s side claimed their first victory of the season when defeating Shroton by six wickets on Saturday and the Villagers’ skipper is now fixed on building momentum for the games ahead.

Kershaw, who is replaced by Ed Nichols as skipper for the next two games due to unavailability, told Echosport: “To beat a team that were top of the league at their ground was a good place to start.

“Hopefully the momentum will carry through the next couple of weeks and we can start stringing some wins together.”

On Broadstone, he added: “They’re a strong side and won the league two years ago. They’re not a team to be underestimated.

“They’ve got strong batsmen up top so hopefully we’ll take wickets early. We’re missing Matt Camp, I’m away and Ed (Nichols) is taking the reins. That’s our fault – we can’t seem to get a consistent side out.

“Early season we always seem to struggle but we’ve got strength in depth with the youth so hopefully they’ll turn up again like they did at Shroton and get us to the win.”

Kershaw is also hoping to make Lower Ashton Farm a “fortress” despite not winning there this season.

He said: “It was a disappointing turnout against Bere. It’s important to make your home ground a fortress – you should always back yourself to win at home.”

Fraser Hill, Matt Rimmer and Lee House are also out but George and Tom Pope, plus Jamie and John Stewart and Chris Read come in.
