WEYMOUTH Women’s Volleyball Club have been accepted into the country’s elite summer tournament division, being given entry into the top events, for the eighth season running.

The main event the club will play is the Surrey Cup to be played in Cobham where Weymouth will play most of the National League Super Division teams.

These are likely to include London Polonia, London Malory, rivals Wessex, Dark Star Derby, Team South Wales, Hertfordshire and Ashcombe Dorking.

Weymouth as a club are going through a transition period at the moment.

The squad changing due to player retirements but they have recruited several England junior international players as well as retaining the experience of sisters Aisla and Ilona McDonald.

Also joining the squad will be seasoned National League players Iris Gernier and Diane Schmidt.

The club is also aiming to play several outdoor tournaments in the top division as well.

These events are namely the Ashcombe Tournament in Dorking in June, and the Whitfield Tournament in Bristol in early July.

Also on the club’s agenda is to attract local players to train with the squad with a view to setting up a second squad to potentially provide a feeder into the elite level team to promote continuity.
