WEYMOUTH Seconds’ captain Tom Reed believes the atmosphere around the Seasiders’ second string has “completely changed” after a third successive win sent his side top of County Division Six.

Reed’s men thrashed Poole Town Fourths by nine wickets to claim their third straight maximum-point victory.

As a result, Weymouth’s second XI are one of just two teams in Dorset – alongside Corfe Mullen – to have claimed 60 points from three games.

Last season, Weymouth were relegated from County Division Five having taken one win from 16 games.

However, Reed told Echosport the Seasiders’ attitude is now more positive.

He said: “The whole atmosphere of the team has completely changed.

“There’s so much positivity from, not only the younger lads, the older lads. Everyone’s in it to win it and it’s really good to see.”

Luke Lovett was the star performer against Poole, snaring a stunning 4-1 before hitting 25.

Andy Jeffreys took 4-26 to help bowl Poole out for 95 and the Seasiders then unleashed carnage in their reply.

Despite losing Lovett, Tony Quayle (24no) played the anchor role before Tim Guyett (46no) pulverised the Poole attack with four boundaries and three sixes – one nearly landing in the sea bordering Whitecliff Rec as Weymouth won in the 17th over.

Commenting on his players’ displays, Reed added: “It could’ve been difficult, conditions weren’t great.

“Ben Hunter is a different bowler from last year and Tim was tight as anything.

“Andy came back and struggled to start with but he was really good. We got the job done.”

“Luke was brilliant and he bowled well with four for one. He sorted out the lower order, just blew them away.”

Reed was delighted as the Seasiders’ youth begin to step up.

He said: “It’s massive for the club. The youth are looking really good, they’re going to develop a lot.

“We could have three or four players knocking on the door of the first team next season.”
