BEN Howe has sealed the title of Weymouth & District Table Tennis League Junior champion, winning the annual Rob Taylor Trophy.

In a very successful season, Howe adds this to his Weymouth & District Schools boys’ under-19 win and a runners-up medal competing with Weymouth in the National Junior League.

A large entry of 30 players, ranging from those with county experience to primary school beginners, took part in a high-quality competition at All Saints School.

The first round saw five groups of six players play each other in a round-robin format. Results from the first groups then decided which group players would join and play similar ranked players for a set of medals per ability group.

Budmouth League players dominated the top group and included Howe, Josh Clark, Jed Brackenridge and Sophie Storey.

Howe won all four of his games to top the group, the most significant result being a 2-0 win over the runner-up, Clark.

Storey finished as the league’s top-placed girl defeating Jess Moggeridge in the group games.

There were consolation finals across the other five groups, with Moggeridge defeating Sam Melhuish to win Group Two.

George Ackerley beat Jean Baker to claim Group Three, while Holly Calton won Group Four after beating Ben Chen.

Josh White triumphed over Zach Barras to win Group Five and Oliver Dunn sealed Group

Six after his win over Harri Walters.

Margaret Taylor kindly presented the trophies and medals.

Players aged eight and upwards are invited to join Weymouth and Dorchester training which re-starts on Monday, September 2 and Saturday, September 7.
