PORTLAND United’s president and chairman are asking for support for a venture to raise money to purchase the land at Grove Corner from the Crown.

Chairman Robin Satherley and president Dave Camp along with the committee at Portland are asking people for support for the £60,000 required, with the Crown is looking to sell off several areas they own, the club do not want this land to be sold, in the future, for building purposes.

A donation has been received from the Court Leet for which the club is extremely grateful but there is still a massive mountain to climb.

One of the ways that the club hope to raise money is by asking people to sponsor a square of the pitch or other areas of the ground.

There will be 110 squares at £50 each.

The corner flags, penalty spots and centre spot areas will be £100 each.

The two stands will be £500 each, also the bank will be divided into five areas each costing £100 each.

The ticket hut will be £200 and the clubhouse £500.

You may wish to purchase a square as a birthday present or in memory of a loved one.

On Thursday, July 4, club members will be in the foyer of Tesco on Portland and people will be able to pay by cheque, cash or bank transfer.

Satherley said: “Someone will be on hand from 10.30am until 6.30pm that day and anyone wanting to purchase parts prior to that can give Dave Camp a call.

“The squares will also be available on Saturday, July 6 when the club entertain Weymouth for a pre-season friendly.

“Once complete, there will be a display board both in the clubhouse and somewhere in the ground. This will show the sponsor’s name in their chosen square/area.

“If you are a taxpayer forms will be available for you to gift aid your donation and this adds 25 per cent to each pound given.

“This is your opportunity to support Portland United to ensure it’s excellent facilities will always be available for future generations.”

The club have also announced that Sam Buckler has agreed terms to stay with the club for the 2019/20 season in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division.

However, the Blues will be without Darren Watts for the forthcoming season, as he has moved to Dorset Premier League side Dorchester Sports.
