JURASSIC COAST RAPTORS 6

BOURNEMOUTH BOBCATS 44

JURASSIC Coast Raptors were rolled over by the Bournemouth Bobcats at the Clayson Stadium in a 44-6 defeat.

The game was also likely to be David Laleye’s final game for the club, and marked it by getting on the scoreboard.

In the return fixture, the first game of the season, both teams were clearly rusty though Bournemouth ground their way to a 19-2 victory but it was a different story here.

Both teams were clearly fired up for this game, and with the home crowd making themselves heard, Bournemouth received the kick off and made progress down the field until the Raptors forced them to punt just inside the home half.

The kick pinned the Raptors deep in their half, and they could not get out, and attempted to punt back, but a wayward snap forced punter Laleye to try to run for the required yardage.

Unfortunately, he only got back to the line of scrimmage, and the Bobcats took over in great field position.

This time they made no mistake and a pass to the back of the end-zone was hauled in for the opening touchdown.

The Bobcats continued to look strong on both sides of the ball, and when starting defensive lineman for the Raptors Jonas Schwenck went down for the game with a nasty arm injury his side lost a bit of their power and strength in the middle against the Bournemouth run game.

The Raptors’ offence was capable of getting the ball moving, particularly with Laleye and Jamie Lamb-Foster, but it was sporadic and unreliable as Raptors’ quarterback Mick Muir was under pressure and being hurried all game long.

The Bournemouth defence had the Raptors’ number when it mattered.

After the second Bournemouth touchdown, Laleye demonstrated just how dangerous a player he is, taking the kick-off straight back up the field and into the Bournemouth endzone for the Raptors’ only score of the game.

Craig Macdonald, quarterback for the Bobcats, was having his own problems, throwing three interceptions, two to Raptors’ defensive back Oli Brew and one to Joe Southcott.

Macdonald did eventually find chemistry with Bobcats’ player-coach Jason Griffith.

Griffith, playing out of the slot receiver position, tore great chunks of yardage out of the Raptors’ defence who were seemingly unable to cover him as the Bobcats rolled over the Raptors comfortably, the Raptors not helping themselves at all.

On the very last play of the game, with the Raptors’ offence on the field, the running back fumbled the ball under heavy duress and the Bobcats picked up the ball and ran it in for the closing score.

Three games on three consecutive weekends perhaps affected the Raptors team as they fell 44-6.

The Raptors have a weekend off to recover and recoup before travelling to Finsbury Park, London for the first game against the highly touted London Blitz B.
