DORCHESTER Town manager Callum Brooks has confirmed the Magpies’ door is ajar for midfielders Aaron Rodriguez and Dom Panesar-Dower.

Both players, currently without a deal for next season, have experienced limited game time under Brooks’ 10-game stewardship and the duo are known to be hunting for more match minutes.

Brooks has nevertheless invited the pair to pre-season training this week and the Magpies’ boss confirmed both men will get their chances to impress before the season proper.

He told Echosport: “Aaron and Dom are both with us. I haven’t offered them anything yet – that is mutual between us.

“Both of them are in positions where they want to play more football than what they did last year.

“They’re both fantastic lads and lads I enjoy working with. From what they tell me they enjoy working with me.

“Dom, same as Aaron, is going to throw his name in the hat for pre-season and he’ll get the opportunities on the pitch in pre-season like any other player in the squad.

“From there, it’s on to him to prove he needs to be in the starting XI.”

But Brooks hinted talks would be needed if Panesar-Dower fails to cement a first-team berth.

“The difference is with Dom this year, if he isn’t in the starting XI it might be that me and him sit down and decide the best way forward for him to become the best player he can be is to go and play football somewhere else,” Brooks said.

“Obviously, while he’s been on the bench other players have been improving and his own progress has been hampered a little bit.

“Me and him have been speaking all summer. I’m a coach at the end of the day and I want to improve players. Between us we’ve devised a plan for what’s best for Dom.

“If I get the best out of Dom and get him to the level which his potential suggests he can get to, then I’ve got a good player on my hands.

“Step one on that plan isn’t saying you’re committed to us for a year if that means you won’t play. Hopefully Dom gives a really good account of himself in pre-season and we’ll see where we end up.”
