WEYMOUTH Rowing Club’s schools programme ran again this year for six weeks every Wednesday.

The club had three schools taking part this year on the course, Wey Valley, Budmouth and Atlantic Academy.

There were 20 students in total using four of the club’s gigs and volunteers from the club spent the sessions teaching the students how to row, encouraging them to work as a team on and off the water, and boat safety.

The six weeks ended with the schools competing against each other in two short races, Wey Valley won both races with an impressive first race time of three minutes and 39 seconds, followed closely by Atlantic Academy with four minutes and nine seconds, with Budmouth six seconds behind them and Atlantic’s second boat finishing after just over five minutes.

After rowing back to the clubhouse, the students enjoyed a barbecue and received a certificate for their achievements and a year’s free membership to Weymouth Rowing Club.

Schools rowing co-ordinator Jane Carter said: “The students have been absolutely brilliant, they are so enthusiastic and have been a delight to teach, they are a credit to their schools and themselves. We look forward to running the event next year with new students.”
