A NEW school record, held since 2008, was broken at the Wey Valley Academy Sports Day.

Cory Baker, threw 31 metres in the Year Eight javelin to secure the honour.

The first sports day under the schools’ title was a great success.

After the opening ceremony which highlighted inclusion, competition and enjoyment as the three mains aims for the day, students in all year groups participated with enthusiasm and inspiration in a range of events.

The pupils also had the opportunity to participate in a range of 18 alternative ‘get-set’ activities that included the likes of Ready-steady-cook, journalism, taekwondo, boxing and waveboarding.

In the afternoon was the awards ceremony with trophies being presented by principal Sarah Bell and Chris Plummer (ex-Wey Valley PE).

Winners: Year 7 – PJA, Year 8 – SPS, Year 9 – MMU, Year 10 – EWO, overall winners – SPS; Spirit of sport student winners: Year 7 – Josh Robins/Zara Hunt, Year 8 – Reece Slade/Madi Seymour, Year 9 – James Woods/Molly Dennis, Year 10 – Harvey Watson/Rachel Binnie.
