YEMI Odubade is delighted to return to his “second family” as Weymouth continue their pre-season build-up.

Odubade’s extended stay at the Bob Lucas Stadium was announced in June, the day after the squad got together for the first time ahead of the 2019/20 National League South season.

Odubade, discussing pre-season, said: “It’s going really well.

“It is just nice to see the lads again, after such a high and getting promoted. It is just nice, you spend a lot of time with the boys and let them get away and do what they want to do in the summer, relax, take your mind off football.

“You ask any footballer the lads are like your second family, so to see everyone about and just chatting and laughing and getting down to business is nice, really nice.”

It has been a hectic off season for Odubade, who has got married and had his honeymoon, but he has praised the signings the club have made so far.

He said: “I had a chat with the gaffer before my wedding about everything and I said ‘look I just want to get the wedding out of the way and my honeymoon and sort everything out then’.

“We had a few chats about the right deal for me and what next year entails and I didn’t really have much time to think because I had my wedding preparations and that came first.

“I got back had another chat with the gaffer and things got sorted in the end.

“I am happy to sign and commit for another year, I am looking forward to it. We have made some great signings and I am looking forward to putting that blue shirt on again.”

Odubade is no stranger to the National League South, with the club he joined the Terras from, Eastbourne Borough, among Weymouth’s new rivals in the sixth tier.

Odubade says it is all about preparation, both mentally and physically however.

Odubade said: “Obviously it is going to be better than the league below, better in all areas, all of the players are better in all areas. We have just got to make sure we are fit enough and mentally and physically prepare to cope with that.

“There is going to be a lot of games, so we are just going to have to do what we can to stay fit and prep before and after and just look after ourselves because it is going to be a long season as we know, as football is nowadays.”

Referring to his wedding and busy off season, honeymoon Odubade quite succinctly said: “It was lovely, just perfect in every single way possible.”
