WEYMOUTH captain Harry Mitchell admits the Seasiders’ catching must “drastically” improve if they are to beat Marnhull in their County Division One contest tomorrow (1.30pm).

Mitchell’s men, who have lost successive final-over games to Hamworthy Recreation and Shillingstone by one wicket, dropped nine chances in the latter defeat last time out.

But Weymouth face a struggling Marnhull side who last season beat the Seasiders to the County Division Two title.

Weymouth currently hold fourth place and are 49 points ahead of their relegation-threatened rivals in ninth.

Speaking to Echosport, Mitchell said: “Our catching needs to be drastically improved otherwise we’re not going to win many cricket matches come the end of the season.

“When you come up from Division Two, that’s the difference. You give people a chance and they go on to make 30s, 40s and 50s, so we’ve got to start making them stick.

“We’re looking to bounce back and (Marnhull) have got some good players, they ran away with the league really.

“Maybe they’ve been found out this year – they’ve got some good new ball bowlers and a couple of good young batters.

“But one to 11 if we perform I think we’ll come out with a good result.”

Weymouth will choose from a squad of 14, with regular first-teamers Matt Lawes, John Wilson, Neil Walton and James Almond returning. However, Simon Browne, Dave Blackman, Lloyd Beals and Sami Rathnayake miss out.
