BROADSTONE 259-8 (20pts) bt MARTINSTOWN 149 (6pts) by 110 runs

BROADSTONE’S Daniel Cook hit a magnificent 133 which helped ensure his side beat Martinstown by 110 runs in the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier Division.

Heartbreakingly for the visitors, Cook survived a huge shout of lbw early on in his innings, and he went to hit his unbeaten centuryt, and anchor almost the entire innings for Broadstone.

Adam Fowler-Watt took six wickets for Broadstone as Martinstown attempted to chase the score down at Delph Woods.

Martinstown got off to a good start, conceding just 13 runs before Ashley Collison (1) was bowled by Chris Read.

However, the partnership of Cook and Luke Carter (32) soon took the score up to 100 before the latter was caught by Charlie Durant from a Ryan Chase delivery.

Pete Russell then had to retire with injury, as Broadstone faltered to 113-4.

The runs were slowing, with Martinstown able to take semi-regular wickets, and it looked promising with the home side at 178-8.

Durant and Chase were both able to take three wickets each as they sought to halt Broadstone.

The final partnership would prove very fruitful for Broadstone however, as Cook and Matt Spraggs (35) pushed the score on to 259-8 by the time the 50 overs were finished.

Fowler-Watt bowling for Broadstone proved particularly effective, as he took the first six wickets with Martinstown floundering at 59-6.

Will Maltby (6) and Matt Camp (43) provided hope, with their partnership firing up to 123-6 before the latter was trapped lbw by Matt Spraggs.

However, Martinstown were soon skittled for 149 all out as they fell to defeat.

Martinstown captain Sam Kershaw told Echosport: “We lost the game to two players really, it was quite a frustrating day for us. Obviously we had a very, very close appeal for Cook early on in his innings, which we could not really see a lot wrong with it which was turned down.

“Take his 133 away from that scoreline and then it is 130, it is frustrating, they are the kind of things that aren’t really going our way, there is not a lot we can really do about it.”

Kershaw also paid tribute to Broadstone’s Russell, who picked up an injury.

Kershaw said: “Pete Russell got injured and I think he has done his Achilles so myself and the club wish him all the best in recovery, he is a nice guy and I hate to see it happen on the field. We wish him all the best.”
