STRATTON Saxons held off Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy to win the Weymouth Business Charity Beach Volleyball Tournament in support of Weldmar Hospice.

ASM and O’Three finished just outside the top two at the sun-kissed competition, which raised £500 for Weldmar.

Cherise Luke-Bennett, of event organisers Nantes Solicitors, said: “We had a fantastic turnout from both players and supporters. We had 32 business teams and everyone played very well.

“We are delighted to have raised over £500 for Weldmar Hospice and we plan to host the event again next summer.

“We would like to thank everyone who participated in or supported the event.

“Special thanks to Weymouth Town Council, John Cook of Achievements UK for providing the medals and trophies, Dolphin Design & Print for providing the merchandise, Darron Garnett who gave his time and talent to provide the half-time entertainment, Peter and Graham from the Volleyball Club for supplying the equipment and technical advice and of course all of the staff at Nantes Solicitors who gave their time to run the event.”

Fiona Hansford, from Weldmar Hospice, gave a huge thanks to everyone supporting the hospice at the tournament.

She said: “We were honoured to be there and to be associated with such a brilliant event.

“Nantes and their team did a fantastic job and should be feeling super proud. Well done to you all!”

Kathryn Day, Director at Nantes Solicitors, said: “Nantes were pleased to be able to take this event over at short notice in May 2019.

“Cherise has been involved in this event for the last 10 years and we will aim to make it bigger and better every year.

“We were inundated with entrants this year and we hope to be able to accommodate everyone in 2020. We will open applications for the 2020 event in spring.”
