BLANDFORD UNITED 2

DORCHESTER Sports came from behind in a see-saw Dorset Premier League clash at the Clayson Stadium to claim a 2-2 draw against Blandford United.

Jamie Samways twice hit the crossbar for Sports who took the lead on 25 minutes when Gareth Will chipped in a sublime 40-yard effort but a dislocated shoulder for goalkeeper Antony Frost hindered the hosts.

Frost was replaced by outfield player Will Gould and a nervy Sports’ defence then conceded twice in first-half stoppage time after softly giving possession away, Bradley Pike grabbing a double for the Royals.

In a further blow, Jamie West was replaced by midfielder Dan Peart after sustaining a hamstring strain but Peart got Sports ticking and his incisive through ball to Samways was clinically placed home for an equaliser.

An exciting end-to-end finish followed with Sports going closest to snatching victory when Alex Stafie’s long-range drive cannoned off the bar.

Sports’ boss Ashley James said: “It was a fair result. Both teams could’ve won it, but neither team deserved to lose. There were loads and loads of chances. It’s just frustrating we couldn’t get the three points because they were there for the taking. We gave it everything but we couldn’t get the winner.”

Sports: Frost (W Gould 40), P Thomas, A Gould, Smith (Quinton 60), Hill, Samways, G Will, Rawlings, A Steele, West (Peart 46), Stafie

Sports host Corfe Castle at the Clayson on Saturday (3pm).
