BALTI Sports’ boss Marco Nott has described today’s derby with Dorchester Sports as “the best game of the season” ahead of their hotly-anticipated clash at Weymouth College (6.30pm).

Nott’s men are unbeaten after a 2-2 opening draw with Blandford United and respective 2-0 and 5-0 wins away at Bridport Reserves and Sturminster Newton United.

Speaking to Echosport, Nott believes Balti can continue good home form against their arch-rivals.

He said: “It’s the best game of the season, probably for both teams. It’s something to look forward to on the fixture list.

“We’ve got a good record against them at home and they beat us when we go away.

“It’s going to be a tough game and we are missing several players, which is a bit of a blow.”

Meanwhile, Nott’s counterpart Ashley James is mindful of a hoodoo at the Weymouth venue.

He said: “It’s a massive game, they’ve started well but nothing’s separating us at the moment.

“It does tend to be home advantage in these games, we haven’t got a very good record down there at all – it’s pretty horrific!”

James has a full squad to choose from with Jamie Rawlings and Adam Wash available, while Nott is without Phil Anderson, Ross Walker, Carl McClements (head) and Charlie Kenderdine but Ethan Devaney and Danny Andrews return.

BALTI SPORTS 5

BALTI Sports claimed a thumping 5-0 win over Sturminster Newton United in the Dorset Premier League to continue their unbeaten start to the new campaign.

An evenly contested game was punctuated by a nasty clash of heads between Balti’s McClements and a Cherries centre-back, McClements requiring stitching in his head and going off for Karl Dean.

A 10-minute delay preceded Balti’s opening goal as Ricky Lane smashed in an effort from 30 yards after Sturminster’s keeper came flying out of his goal and misjudged the flight of the ball.

From the kick-off, Balti intercepted a Cherries pass and Sanchez Baker was on hand to aim a delicious chip over the hapless home gloveman.

Lane still had time to miss a first-half penalty as Balti failed to add to their tally before the break.

Atoning for his botched spot-kick, Lane put the visitors 3-0 up when slotting home from 12 yards.

Baker claimed his brace courtesy of a one-on-one chance before Lane wrapped up his hat-trick 10 minutes from time, rounding the keeper and placing home from a tight angle.

CORFE CASTLE 2

DORCHESTER Sports had to come from a goal down early before running riot with an 8-2 Dorset Premier League victory over Corfe Castle at the Clayson Stadium.

Ashley Weeks made his debut in goal for Sports and they also welcomed back Darren Watts in midfield but it was the visitors that took the lead when John Lovell’s cross deflected off the head of Sports’ centre-back Danny Peart and flew up over Weeks.

Sports were sloppy in the opening exchanges but the goal seemed to kick James’ men into life as they scored three quick goals before half-time.

Firstly, Gareth Will played in captain Jamie Samways to equalise then Ash Smith scored his first goal for Sports before Will crossed with Jamie West about to pounce but the ball was turned in to the net by the visiting defender.

Sports made a change at half-time with Ryan Ross coming on for his first action of the season and the striker had three good early chances but could not find the net.

With Sports looking comfortable, Corfe struck again when a shot was well saved by Weeks but Courtney Johnstone was on hand to tap in the rebound.

Once again the goal looked to fire Sports up and from now it was one-way traffic as Ross chased the keeper down, dispossessed him and chipped a 20-yard effort over the keeper’s head.

Watts sealed the points when his 20-yard effort found the net for his first of the season.

Ross completed his brace before Will made it three goals from three games as he blasted Sports’ seventh. There was still time for Ross to complete a second-half hat-trick in the last seconds to round off the scoring.
