PORTLAND United boss Brendon King admits FA Cup Preliminary Round opponents Hamworthy United are “flying” ahead of their clash at the Weyline Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

Hamworthy have secured a 100 per cent start to their Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division season, while Portland have registered just two points from the opening three games.

The Blues advanced to this stage courtesy of a 3-0 win over Solent University, while Hamworthy also beat Bashley 3-0.

With a further £2,890 on offer to the winners, financial plus sporting honours are at stake.

King told Echosport: “It’s a massive game for both sides, not just the financial implications. It’s personal pride for players and coaching staff. We want to go as far as we can.

“It’s still the greatest cup competition in the world and everybody has aspirations of going as far as they can.

“Hamworthy are going to turn up to us fancying their chances and we know that on our day we can win, so I think it’s got the classic (signs) of being a really good cup tie.

“To be fair to them, they’re flying, they’ve recruited well this summer. They’ve got some good players up there. They’re unbeaten, scoring goals and not conceding many.

“It’s going to be as tough as they come, but it’s what you could call a good game to win.”

Portland have a full-fit squad for the match.
