DORCHESTER’S Martha Thomas has backed women’s football to thrive in Dorset with the hosting of Yeovil Town Women at the Clayson Stadium this season.
Despite dropping two divisions from the top-flight Women’s Super League to the Women’s National League South, Yeovil will continue to play home games at Dorchester Town’s venue.
Speaking to Echosport, forward Thomas, who will wear the number nine shirt for West Ham United in the WSL this season, urged local fans to back Yeovil.
She said: “Obviously Yeovil were in the first division and after last season they’ve dropped down a bit.
“To see them being down there, hopefully they’ll get support from local fans because there’s no professional Dorchester team, or semi-professional.
“To have a women’s team based at the men’s stadium hopefully drew in some women’s football fans.”
Yeovil Town Women visit Stevenage in the FA Women’s National League Cup on Sunday (2pm).
