PORTLAND Red Triangle captain Matt Randell backed his side’s batting talent to shine once more at County Division One champions elect Cattistock tomorrow (1.30pm).

Randell blasted a sensational 183 from 132 balls against Shillingstone on Saturday as Portland broke the club record score of 399 by setting 405-6 from 45 overs.

Cattistock will go into the game requiring just three points to win the title.

Even though Randell has been handed a two-match ban relating to an incident earlier in the season, the Triangle skipper has belief in the islanders’ firepower on a ground featuring short boundaries.

He told Echosport: “I’ve always said we’ve got a very talented batting line-up. We’ve always said ‘one week it’ll click’ and when we scored 360 at Broadstone it gave everyone the confidence that batting first we could just post whatever sort of total.

“It’s a talented group of lads and everyone will be looking forward to Cattistock, being able to cash in on those short boundaries.”

Elliot Sawyer replaces Randell, while Callan Laws will take the captaincy.

Elsewhere, Portland Red Triangle Seconds host Symene at Reforne tomorrow (1.30pm) in County Division Five, looking to make up ground on the third-placed side.
