THE Weymouth and Portland Cruising Association saw six boats set off from Weymouth for a lovely sail downwind to Mupe Bay where they anchored and dinghies were deployed to go ashore for a barbecue.

Roy Sanders from Happy Wanderer however decided to brave a swim from his boat floating his cool box ahead of him.

Before returning to Weymouth, the braver members ventured into the water for a swim in the clear waters.

The sail home was more challenging than the outward trip as the wind had increased and it was a long beat home, however, all agreed it was a very enjoyable day, especially new club member Richard Thomas who joined Chris and Tess Reid on Monterey for the day.

John and Jane Atkinson in Eleanor were unable to take part but ventured out separately earlier in the week and were rewarded with the remarkable company of friendly dolphins for part of their sail.

The next day cruise is being planned for next week and then in September a number of boats have signed up for a pleasant trip to the Solent which cruising chairman Peter Rigby is putting together.
