DORCHESTER Town boss Callum Brooks called for a performance full of “heart, desire” and “determination” during the Magpies’ meeting with Hartley Wintney in the BetVictor Southern Premier South tomorrow (3pm).

Brooks’ men host the Row at the Clayson Stadium having suffered three consecutive away losses to Truro, Salisbury plus Blackfield & Langley.

In contrast, Dorchester won their only match at home this season – a 1-0 victory over Beaconsfield Town.

And Brooks is looking for a suitable response to the three defeats since.

He told Echosport: “We’re looking forward to it. It has been a tough run and we’ve had away games, poor luck, decisions and brought a lot of trouble on ourselves.

“I’m not going to hide behind any of those things.

“If you round it up into a summary, we’ve not been good enough across three games of football.

“What I’m looking for is a good reaction and hopefully we can build on the positive start we had on home turf in the opening game.

“What I feel is important is we put in a performance which is full of heart, desire, determination and being prepared to roll your sleeves up for every scrap, second ball and get back to basics and make something positive happen.”

Brooks added he is prepared to strip back the Magpies’ display to the basic desire to win.

“When you’ve come off the back of three defeats, the last thing we need to be talking about is ‘we want to see this and the combinations’ – that’s all far away,” he said.

“We need to see a performance by players really fighting for the shirt and the club. We’ve got a good group and it’s hurting that we haven’t picked up as many points as we wanted from our opening games.

“It is early days and we’ve got a fantastic opportunity to put that right. We’re three points away from being in a very positive position.

“That’s what’s up for grabs, a display full of guts and one the supporters can relate to. If they can see the players have given everything, that’s half the battle.”

Charlie Davis (hamstring) is expected to return for the Magpies’ FA Cup first qualifying round tie at Evesham United, but Dom Panesar-Dower (bruised ankle) is also out.
