PORTLAND Town held an inter-club tournament to open their new ground at Milborne St Andrew Sports Ground, where the first team are playing for the upcoming season.

The first team was managed by Kevin Paice and played the the club’s second string, managed by Steve Sprout in the semi-final, which the reserves won 4-0, earning the right then play the D squad in the final.

Sam Course scored the first two goals for the reserves, and in the process scored the club’s 3,000th all time goal., before a third was added by Colin Upfold and a fourth courtesy of Course sealed the victory for his side, and a chance to play the development squad.

The reserves went 1-0 up in the first half through Phil Aspden, while a late penalty in the dying seconds from the D squad’s Liam Parsons meant it went to penalties with Prout’s boys winning 4-2 to take the trophy.

A club spokesman said: “We’ve been very lucky to get three very big sponsors on board for the new season. Firstly for the first team, we have Chesil Beach Motors of Weymouth and Portland for the reserves we have CBA and for the D squad we have Matt Sports. CBM also sponsors the club’s polo and jackets for the all the players. And we can’t thank them enough.”
