PORTLAND United assistant-manager Reggie Carter believes the Blues enter their Sydenhams Wessex League Cup second round clash with Fleet Town at the Weyline Stadium tomorrow (3pm) “on a high”.
After a 2-0 FA Cup first qualifying round win at Longlevens, Portland face their second consecutive cup jaunt in a competition that yielded a finalist spot last season before a gutting 1-0 loss to Baffins Milton Rovers.
And Carter is keen to preserve the “momentum” established by the superb victory in Gloucestershire.
He told Echosport: “We don’t know much about Fleet, obviously they came down (from Southern League Division One).
“We’ll go into it on a high from last week and it’s about keeping the momentum now.
“We got a clean sheet on Saturday – that’s something we’ve been striving for because we’ve been conceding silly goals.
“We’ve got to be hard to break down with a tight defence and make sure we don’t concede easily. That sets a platform to build on because we know we’re always going to score goals.
“That’s not picking on the back four because we defend as a unit. The lads are all buzzing and ready to go. It’s a cup match on home soil. We got to the final last year and just fell short. It’s something we want to progress in and we’ll go out for a win.”
Midfield duo Max Buckler and Sean Stewart are unavailable.
