DORCHESTER Town midfielder Sam Lanahan has departed the Clayson Stadium with immediate effect.

Lanahan, who was in a third stint with the Magpies, has made 115 appearances for the county town side, scoring 20 goals.

However, the former Gosport maestro had secured just four appearances this season and was left out of the matchday squad for the 2-0 FA Cup first qualifying round win over Evesham United on Sunday.

Competition for central midfield places is fierce at Dorchester with Charlie Davis, Billy Lowes, Luke Winsper, Don Panesar-Dower, Sean Wright plus Plymouth loan duo Camerson Sangster and Tom Purrington available to boss Callum Brooks.

In a statement on the Magpies' website, Dorchester wished Lanahan well for the next chapter in his career.

It read: "Dorchester Town Football Club can confirm that Sam Lanahan has left the club.

"The midfielder, who initially made his debut for the Magpies back in 2013, re-joined the club for a third spell earlier in the summer having spent the previous campaign with Gosport Borough.

"We would like to thank Sam for his efforts for the club this season and we wish him all the best for the future."

Dorchester visit Hendon in the BetVictor Southern Premier South tomorrow (3pm).
