HENDON 1

Harriott 9

DORCHESTER TOWN 3

Hoey 47, 56, 86

JACK Hoey’s magnificent second-half hat-trick handed Dorchester Town a priceless away win at Hendon in the BetVictor Southern Premier South.

Dorchester were in desperate need of a positive result after four straight league losses and the Magpies duly delivered through Hoey’s heroics after a shaky start.

In response, boss Callum Brooks made two changes to the starting XI that beat Evesham 2-0 in the FA Cup first qualifying round last time out.

Tom Blair returned from suspension in place of Cameron Sangster, with Shane Murphy replacing goalkeeper Nick Hutchings, and the switches almost paid early dividends.

Dorchester won a penalty in the early moments of the game but Charlie Davis saw his effort superbly clawed out by Hendon keeper Chris Grace, whose intervention proved profitable in the ninth minute.

After only partially clearing a cross, Dorchester were punished when Matty Harriott lashed home from 18 yards for 1-0.

Dorchester then saw Hoey and Blair pass up good opportunities, Grace in fine form to deny both men, while Murphy was equally busy in a hectic first half to thwart Ryan Hope twice.

Hendon piled on the pressure in search of a second in a hugely entertaining game, Murphy again called upon to prevent Connor Calcutt from making it 2-0.

Dorchester kept the belief and were rewarded when Hoey notched his first goal for the club in the 47th minute.

Hendon slackened off at the back and allowed Hoey to get across his marker and bury a wonderful header beyond Grace to equalise.

Hoey’s effort was the tonic Dorchester required, matching their bright attacking play, and the Weymouth loanee was quickly amongst the home defence to score his second on 56 minutes.

Right-back Kyle Egan, a marauding force all afternoon, was the creator when dribbling past two defenders and cutting the ball back to Hoey to sweep home.

Hendon made all three substitutions in a bid to arrest their alarming dip in momentum, but Dorchester were in no mood to relent as Hoey grabbed his treble.

In similar fashion to his second goal, Hoey pounced on another cut-back to guide the ball home into the far corner past the despairing Grace as Hendon wilted.

There was still time for the luckless Davis to curl a delicious free-kick against the post as Dorchester claimed their second win – and first on the road – of the league campaign.

Dorchester now sit in 19th, moving out of the bottom three above Yate Town, who lost 2-1 to Hayes and Yeading.
