WEYMOUTH Rowing Club entered two crews in the London Great River Race.

The sun shone as more than 300 craft of all kinds rowed under the 28 bridges from the Docks to Ham, Richmond, a 21.6-mile course.

They were cheered on by spectators lining the bridges through central London and on the riverbank at the finish.

Weymouth boats, Isolde and Tristan had experienced coxswains who navigated their crews safely through the arches of the bridges.

In Tristan, Weymouth had a mixed crew of squad rowers who gave it their all to achieve first place in the mixed category.

Their time was two hours, 28 minutes and 27 seconds.

In Isolde, Weymouth had a mixed mainly recreational crew who made steady and sure progress and were delighted to achieve a time of 2.52.50hrs and 153rd place overall.

A crew member from Isolde said: “It was so special. We worked as such a team. Not too shabby a result for a crew with an average age of 60.”

A Tristan crew member said: “The final two miles were the hardest for us all with cramp and blisters but we pulled together and rowed for each other crossing the finish line with the firing of a musket.”
