CHRIS Evans kept his nerve and dispatched a second-half penalty to hand Weymouth Sports a 3-2 win over Allendale at Cranford Avenue.

The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes but that was wiped out when Mark Nicholson produced a fine finish to level things up before the break.

Sports continued to stay on top in the early exchanges of the second half with Paul Hayers coolly slotting home to put the hosts 2-1 up.

Many expected the Seasiders to go on and take complete control but Allendale refused to give in and levelled the match up again moments later.

Sports then had an own goal ruled out for offside before Evans netted the winner from the spot with 20 minutes remaining.

Winning assistant manager Mickey Greeno said: "We asked the players for a reaction today, after last week's performance, and they did exactly what we asked of them, which is very pleasing.

"Their work rate was good and at times we played some decent football. Although it ended 3-2 we were always on top and could have easily scored a few more goals.

"We will now look to get a run of results going and get ourselves in the mix."
