WEYMOUTH forward Yemi Odubade is enjoying the extra responsibility of adding more goals to his tally after his double in the Terras’ 4-1 FA Cup third qualifying round win over St Albans.

Since club top scorer Brandon Goodship left for League One side Southend, the Terras’ attack has been challenged by boss Mark Molesley to weigh in with goals.

Weymouth’s forwards have duly responded with top scorer Brett Williams netting six times, while Odubade and Ben Thomson now have five apiece for the season.

Speaking to Echosport, Odubade said: “It’s been really good, we’ve strengthened in the right areas.

“We can’t replace Goody’s goals but the good thing that we have got is goals all around the team.

“We’re just spreading it about. The gaffer did actually say that’s what we need to do and we’re living up to it, so long may it continue.

“We’ve all stepped up to the plate. We’ve got in the right areas and we’ll always create chances. We’ve just got to keep going, it’s a long old season and it’s only October.

“We’ve just kept that championship mentality from last year.”

Commenting on his brace against Saints, Odubade added: “To be fair I had a great chance in the first half, I just leaned back and skied it.

“The lads created numerous chances and it should have been more than four, but we’re in the next round, so it’s good.”

Weymouth will host National League side Dover Athletic on Saturday, October 19 with the winner picking up £18,750 and a place in the first round proper.

Molesley also had his say on Odubade’s performance, adding: “Yemi’s meant to be in the twilight of his career but we joke and call him Benjamin Button around here!

“It’s his experience and his character. It’s not only on the pitch, it’s what you get off the pitch. He’s a good lad and everyone thinks the world of him.

“He scores some vital goals at vital times and vital assists. He really does produce at the right time, so he’s a great player to have around the squad.

“He’s got a couple of goals (against St Albans) and by his standards he’ll be gutted he hasn’t scored a few more, he should at least be walking around with a match ball, but we can’t complain.”
