CAME Down’s Hardy A team have completed a sublime league and cup double.

The Came side lifted the Division Three Championship and scooped the Hardy A Cup after beating rivals Weymouth.

Came beat Bridport in the semi-final of the cup and faced Weymouth in the final.

They managed to secure a halved match away from home and were all set for the showdown at Came Down.

Teeing off with the score poised at 4-4 they were hoping to take advantage of their home course for the second leg.

A crushing 7-1 victory secured a stunning 11-5 aggregate under the captaincy of Ryan Ford to land the silverware.

Meanwhile, in the league, the Hardy A team went to Crane Valley needing 2½ points from eight games to secure the Division Three title.

Crane were the only team that could prevent them, needing six wins from eight to knock Came Down off top spot.

The first points on the board for Came were achieved by Gareth Hughes finishing on the 18th two up.

Second and third matches were lost but then Geraint Hughes returned the scores to all square after winning 3&2.

After seven matches, Crane Valley had secured five wins, so the championship hinged on the last match out on the course involving Tony Howe.

He battled hard and with the match poised all square on the 17th, the 18th was halved giving Came Down the all-important half point to secure the league with 131 points, Crane Valley finished second with 130.

A club spokesman said: “This was an unbelievable climax to an incredible season. Congratulations to all team members.”
