A NEW volleyball club in Weymouth is set to make waves in the South West League.

Weymouth Waves has been formed to offer players the opportunity to develop and enjoy playing indoor volleyball at local league level and higher.

There is a huge volleyball community in Weymouth, which Waves’ co-founders Ali Mitchell and Ben Stokey have been heavily involved with.

Both passionate about the sport and the town, they hope the newly-formed club will be positive and help put Weymouth on the map.

The season starts this month and sees the Waves entering three mixed league teams competing on Tuesday evenings, with the addition of a men’s team venturing into the South West League.

Chairman Mitchell said: “We’re looking forward to the challenge of playing in the South West League.

“It’s a big step-up for many of our players, who have been working really hard during pre-season training.

“We’re immensely proud of what we have achieved so far, and we’d love to have as much local support behind us as possible.”

Supporters can enjoy watching at the club’s home venue, Redlands Community Sports Centre in Weymouth which boasts free balcony and courtside seating.

South West League home fixtures are on Sunday, November 3 and December 8.

Waves play two matches on each date, starting at approximately 10.30am and 2.30pm respectively with the visiting teams facing-off in between.
