FOLLOWING on from last weekend’s league success against Puddletown, Dorchester’s focus now moves to the Dorset & Wilts Senior Vase with momentum on their side.

The county town side have an away tie against Blandford, kicking off at 2.30pm, in the competition they last won in 2017.

If they progress their next opponents will be Melksham in a quarter-finals, with the potential to meet Puddletown in the final if results go the right way for both clubs.

With many clubs opting not to play in the cup competitions this gives the club another chance of silverware and the opportunity to try out new players and combinations.

Coach Martin Oxland is awaiting fitness and availability

updates on a number of players and will leave it to the last

minute to name his starting line-up.

Dorchester have shown they can attack with ball in hand and are looking strong defensively also.

Both Dorchester and their opponents Blandford have won all three games they have actually played this season so far, and will both want to progress to the next round.

Cup games never go with form and Dorchester will be aware of the perils of complacency.

Dorchester’s A XV have a rest weekend from league action and the Gladiators play next Friday evening against a combined Puddletown and Blandford second XV.

Sunday, as usual, sees a number of junior games with the under-13s, 14 and 15s all entertaining Taunton.

n Weymouth & Portland, Puddletown and Bridport are without games this weekend.
