SHIPTON Gorge A secured a convincing 26-12 win over YMCA with both Rob Hawes and Terry Whitworth hitting maximums on week four of the Weymouth & District League.

There was a close encounter between Budmouth A and Springfield B.

Ben Howe kept up his impressive start to the season with a maximum but he had to come from 2-0 down against Paul Arnold (8).

A 3-1 doubles win for Budmouth saw them clinch a 22-17 victory.

A one-sided match (30-1) between Park District A and Preston B saw the home side imposing themselves on Preston who had to call upon Roger Winstanley (1) to make his Division One debut.

A vastly experienced Red Triangle can feel disappointed in only gaining eight points against Springfield A.

Springfield’s John Ryan (9) struggled with their style of play but he dug deep to overcome his opponents.

Moses Lewis (9) gave a mature performance in obtaining his wins.

Derek Dawson (3) and Shaun Beauchamp (3) came from 2-0 down in the doubles to force a decider but Springfield kept their composure to take the 30-8 success.

The players of Colliton X and Shipton Gorge B enjoyed another excellent evening’s table tennis with the former winning 26-10.

The home side got off to a fine start with victories for Andy Crouch (6) and Raj Lehal (9), but Shipton hit back as Brian Cammell (5) edged a tight encounter with Mick Hogan (8).

Preston A were only able to field two players against Shipton Gorge C but Derrick Smith (7) and Simon Green (7) put up a tough fight in going down 19-17.

Only Dan Corren (9) from Shipton was able to weather the tricky serves and attacking drives from the Preston duo.

Corren managed to dig in with some strong consistent play and defensive blocking to gain maximum points.

On the face of it, All Saints A had an easy 30-8 win over Preston C but six of the 10 games went to either four or five sets.

The game of the night saw Ollie James (9) battle back against Chris Harris (2) from two games down and 10-10 in the third to win 3-2.

Steve Rockett (3) picked up a consolation leg in every match to help the visitors total.

Springfield C beat Colliton C 28-6.

Colliton B fought out a close 18-16 win over Budnouth D.

The match between Springfield D and Budmouth C was men against boys, literally.

The inexperienced Budmouth boys were no match for Springfield’s consistency, losing 30-4.

Dan Howe (3) performed well taking a 2-1 lead against Barry Thomas (9) but did not have quite enough to get over the line before teaming up with Taylor Edmonds in the doubles losing a very close match in four legs.

A match which had three five-setters tells you how closely fought the match between Colliton D and Wyke B was.

In the match between Adam Bishop (5) and Rod Wyness (6) there were lots of hard-fought rallies as each player tried to find the shot to outwit each other.

The drama of the evening was probably game four in the match between Louis Stoker (9) and Billy Blackmore (6).

Stoker was 2-1 up but Blackmore was determined to hang in there and eventually won the fourth set 19-17.

The last set also went to deuce but Stoker came away the eventual victor 12-10.

Overall an excellent night of table tennis, with Colliton the eventual winners 24-16.

Colliton A had a straightforward success over Preston D, 30-5.
