A CONVINCING second half display earned Dorchester a bonus point win after they dispatched Wimborne II 31-0.

Playing against the wind and rain for the first period, Dorchester completely dominated the game, rarely allowing the hosts to escape from their own half.

Wimborne, however, defended bravely and restricted Dorchester to a single score, Callum King diving under the posts after a Wimborne player spilled the ball.

James Baker added the simple conversion, but a seven-point lead appeared to be far less than Dorchester would have needed.

Despite the conditions, the visitors played some impressive rugby throughout the second half.

A great team try, scored by Lee King after clever linking between backs and forwards, started the half off and Dorchester took control.

Number eight, Andy Dowell scored at the back of a driving scrum. Skipper James Newsam, at the back of a driving lineout, added the bonus point try before a defence splitting break by the skipper set up James Baker in the corner.

Baker converted two of the four second half tries for a thirty-one-point total.

Dorchester now sit atop the Wadworth Dorset & Wilts 1 South table.

Their next league fixture, on Saturday November 9, pits them against second placed Blandford who they have already defeated in a Dorset & Wilts Vase match.

The County Towns A XV ran out strong winners against a spirited East Dorset side in some very testing weather conditions.

The home side led 14-0 at half time through tries from Damon Ashmore and Tim Stephens.

The team maintained their game plan of keeping the ball in hand and scored further unanswered tries in the second half with Leo Ansell, Luke Robson and Cameron Lynch among the scorers.

Eventually they ran out 47-0 winners placing them sixth in the Wadworth Dorset & Wilts 2 South table, only two bonus point wins off the top of the table.

Their next outing is away to Ellingham & Ringwood who sit one place below them in the table on Saturday November 9.

The Ridgeway Roses much anticipated cup game against Bath 2nd XV was sadly cancelled.
