WESTBURY UNITED 4

BRIDPORT 0

BRIDPORT were defeated 4-0 against Westbury United in the Toolstation Western Football League Premier Division on Wednesday evening.

The Bees now languish three points off the bottom of the league with just three wins from 16 matches and the worst goal difference in the league.

Westbury dominated this fixture and forced Wells-Burr into a number of saves in the opening ten minutes.

The deadlock was broken by Westbury, however, when Callum Demkiv opened the scoring after twelve minutes.

Wells-Burr did everything he could to keep the Bees in the match, making a string of saves, including denying Sam Jordan from point-blank range.

The lead was doubled five minutes before the break though, Ryan Bole was unmarked from a corner and was able finish.

Bridport did manage to end the half strongly and had chances with Stephen Friend and Joe Charles both being denied by the Westbury goalkeeper.

In the second half, Ryan Dovell fired a low free-kick but the ‘keeper was more than a match for it.

The match was then put beyond Bridport’s reach after 62 minutes. Bole, involved again, crossed the ball perfectly and Ricky Hulbert was able to make it 3-0.

With 73 minutes, Joe Stradling headed past Wells-Burr to kill the match and ensure Bridport went home empty-handed and the Bees failed to build on a positive performance against Roman Glass St. George.

Bridport manager, Jamie Manley, told Echosport: “We were up against it right from the beginning.

“Lewis Clarke, Ryan Gall, Tony Pinder all had work commitments and Andy Holmes got a puncture on the way to cap it all off.

“We lost 4-0 but the lads have battled hard and worked hard. If we had everyone available, we would have given them a good game.

“We didn’t start too badly, but then we played a high line and got caught out high up the pitch. They put the ball in behind and tucked it in nicely.

“It is basic errors that are letting us down but saying that we came back into it near the end of the first half. We created chances and if we go into halftime at 2-1 it’s a different game.

“This is a ruthless league, you have to take your chances, that is the difference in the league.

“We are still staying positive. We are all staying together and we will work hard to get players back available again.”
