WEYMOUTH Waves earned their first victory in front of a home crowd against City of Bristol Volleyball Club.

The home side looked nery during the opening set, allowing Bristol to wash them away 15-25, despite some strong outside hitting from Dom Cosserat.

Some accurate float serves from Ben Hart and top spin serving from Cristian Postolache forced Bristol deep into the court was enough to take the second set 25-20.

The third set went the way of the travelling side, the inexperience of Weymouth surfaced as they were out of their depth and lost the third set 26-28.

The fourth set was one Weymouth needed to win to stay in the match and this was a challenge they relished.

The middle play from both Matt Board and Matt Jones was phenomenal, dominating at the net and allowing nothing to get through their block.

Weymouth won 25-19 and built momentum going into the deciding fifth set, which is first to 15 points.

The last set went point for point with both sides attacking well while scrapping for everything on the backcourt.

Tactical substitutions allowed Weymouth to vary their attacking style and take the fifth set 15-13 and subsequently their first win in the South West Volleyball Association league. Matt Board was awarded MVP for the second time in as many match days.

Weymouth then hosted Yeovil later in the afternoon. The first set began slowly, with both teams making some errors, however Yeovil took the first set 23-25 and had the momentum going into the second set.

Weymouth came out for the second set in fine form. That was the beginning of the end for Yeovil as Weymouth took the set 25-10.

The form continued into the third set and Nathan Curtis was having joy at the net as he could cast his attacks to give Weymouth a 2-1 advantage going into the fourth set.

The tides quickly turned, and Yeovil were able to regroup. Complacency from Weymouth and an injury to Matt Jones was enough for Yeovil to level the match 2-2.

Weymouth lined up for their tenth set of the day but needed to find another gear to propel to a second victory.

Unfortunately for Weymouth, it was their service reception that let them down and despite two time outs, they were unable to clinch victory.

Heads now turn back to the local league, where three Waves teams compete against other local teams across Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Their next SWVA fixtures are on Sunday November 17 in Cheltenham, then December 8 at home, in Weymouth.
