DORCHESTER athlete Paul Blake is preparing for a tilt at his second gold of the IPC World Championships in Dubai.

Blake, 29, blitzed his rivals in the T36 800m to claim Great Britain’s first gold of the championships in a time of 2:07.44 – a season’s best.

Blake’s victory signalled his dominance over the event, with his 2019 gold adding to triumphs in 2013 and 2015.

Today, Blake will contest the T36 400m in heat one but is expected to have greater competition for a medal with the likes of Australian James Turner in his heat.

In the second of two heats, world record holder Evgenii Shvetsov will compete for Russia, while New Zealander William Stedman is also expected to challenge for a podium place.

However, Blake is safe in the knowledge he is the current Olympic champion over 400m and has enjoyed a superb training spell in Canada with coach Rob Ellchuk.

Should Blake progress, he will line up in the final tomorrow morning.

Blake is looking to add to the single 400m gold and two silvers he has at world championships events over this distance.
