BILLERICAY TOWN 1

Robinson 72

WEYMOUTH 1

Baggie 61

WEYMOUTH’S unbeaten Vanarama National League South run stretched to 10 games as Billericay came from behind to earn a draw at New Lodge.

Abdulai Baggie’s rocket had put the Terras in front on the hour before Jake Robinson finished off a chaotic attack 10 minutes later.

Unchanged Weymouth began well and saw two chances created for skipper Josh McQuoid, the first a tricky header from Ben Thomson’s cross before a better opportunity from a Calvin Brooks delivery.

Pitched slightly behind the former Northern Ireland international, McQuoid hooked the ball skyward on eight minutes.

Terras’ keeper Calum Ward was forced into a good save from Robinson, before Deon Moore twice fizzed shots wide as Billericay grew into the game.

The Blues’ supremacy in the contest was confirmed when Jake McCarthy was adjudged to have fouled right-back Louis Ramsay in the area.

Robinson stepped up and fired the penalty to Ward’s right, but the gloveman guessed correctly and clawed the ball to safety at a nice height.

Having ridden their luck, the Terras saw Baggie expertly head across the six-yard box, only for his knock down to evade a Weymouth foot.

McQuoid then missed the best of a hat-trick of chances, firing well over, before Josh Wakefield nodded narrowly wide in first-half stoppage-time – the sides going in level.

A cagey opening to the second half was ended when McQuoid clipped a cross in, forcing keeper Alan Julian to gather, but there was nothing the Blues’ stopper could have done about Baggie’s strike.

Forging a path through the Blues’ defence, Baggie was finally tackled but rode the challenge and sizzled a 20-yard scorcher past Julian in the 61st minute.

Billericay responded by making two changes, Callum Kennedy and Jack Paxman coming on for Themis Kefalas and Jacob Cook.

Blues’ added impetus paid dividends as Ward slipped and made a superb save before the Terras denied a header, only for Robinson to bundle home at the third time of asking in the 71st minute.

Terras’ sub Yemi Odubade fired wide after a strong run from Brennan Camp, and the Terras almost netted a winner with five minutes remaining.

It took a last-ditch block from Ronnie Henry to deny McQuoid and there was still time for another nervy Weymouth moment as Moore headed wide, but both teams were forced to settle for a point as wasted chances characterised the game.
