BRIDPORT assistant-manager Kevin Leigh called for the Bees to show their defensive mettle ahead of a trip to Toolstation Western League Premier Division powerhouse Plymouth Parkway on Saturday (3pm).

Bridport won their previous league game – a 2-0 victory over Cadbury Heath – and have kept clean sheets in three of their four league wins this season.

However, Parkway present a huge obstacle in the Bees’ path to success with the Devon side currently sitting second having fired 54 goals in 13 matches.

Speaking to the Bridport News, Leigh admitted Bridport must defend more resolutely than in their midweek 4-2 loss at Verwood.

He said: “Plymouth Parkway are a good side – all these top sides are very, very good.

“We’ve got to defend well and when you get chances you’ve got to take them.

“You go into every game hoping to win.

“We go and play our game and not change anything for teams we’re going to play.

“If we defend well, we’re good. But if we defend like we did (at Verwood), we won’t be very good.”

Bridport have one fresh injury concern going into the clash.

Andrew Holmes picked up a slight hamstring strain in the Verwood loss, while centre-back Ryan Gall is expected to play despite having to work on Saturday morning.

Will Gape is unavailable while Lewis Clarke, Tom Richardson and Scott Wells-Burr could return.

Ryan Dovell, however, has ruled himself out of December due to work commitments and is expected to sign dual forms with former club Balti Sports.
