WEYMOUTH youngster Anders Rowe is ready to make the step up to the SGB Premiership after signing a deal with Swindon Robins for the 2020 season.

Rowe, 17, is now based in Royal Wootton Bassett and has become the fifth name on the Robins' roster for the coming campaign, following the commitment of 2019 league and cup double winners Jason Doyle, Troy Batchelor, Rasmus Jensen and Ellis Perks to remain at the club next year.

Rowe’s experience includes riding for Somerset Rebels in the Championship last season, and he has also spent the three previous years with National League side Kent Kings.

Rowe also has international experience with Great Britain Under-21s, representing his country against Denmark this year.

Next season will give Rowe a first taste of British speedway’s top tier, and although he does not turn 18 until May, the new Robins recruit has no doubt he can make the grade.

“I had a good year this year and made it up to number two for Somerset, and I will start at number two again for Somerset next year,” said Rowe.

“I have beaten a lot of people who you wouldn’t really expect me to beat considering how young I am.

“I also got to race for the Great Britain team at the end of the year and I surprised a lot of people there too.

“I think I am definitely ready to ride in the Premiership, and a lot of other people think I am ready for it too.

“I am expecting it to be tough. Every meeting will be tough and whoever I am riding against will be a tough opponent.

“I am just hoping I can go out and do my best and prove I deserve to be here.”

Rowe has been a Swindon asset for a number of years and has previously ridden for the club’s secondary side, the Sprockets.

After finally being rewarded with his chance to race for the Robins next season, the 17-year-old is champing at the bit to get going.

“I was hoping I would get a call up for next season, and obviously now I have so I am really happy,” said Rowe.

“There is an ex-world champion in the team in Jason Doyle and I am good friends with Troy (Batchelor) and Rasmus (Jensen). It is going to be really good for me to learn from those guys.

“Even though I haven’t really raced for the team, I feel like I have progressed with them. I am up at the track even when I am not racing, so I am watching what the boys do.

“I think I have learned a lot from that, so it should be a good season next year.”
