DORCHESTER Town temporary boss Jody Rivers has ruled himself out of the running to succeed Callum Brooks as the Magpies’ new manager.

Rivers has overseen twice-weekly training sessions and the epic 4-4 draw at Gosport in his interim tenure after the resignation of Brooks following a 3-0 home loss to Met Police.

Earlier this week, Magpies’ chairman Scott Symes revealed four candidates were on the shortlist to replace Brooks.

Rivers is, however, expected to take charge of Dorchester in their BetVictor clash against Tiverton Town on Saturday (3pm) amid the Dorchester board’s ongoing interview process.

Speaking to Echosport, Rivers said: “I speak to Scott every day and he’s told me to take training until I’m informed otherwise.

“I took training (on Tuesday) and I’ve planned training for (tonight). I will be in charge on Saturday but in football things change very quickly.

“I know things can happen and I don’t take things personally. All of a sudden if a new manager was coming in, it wouldn’t be an issue to me.

“I’m just relishing the challenge, it’s been a brilliant experience which will make me better and stronger in the long term.”

He added: “When I’ve spoken to Scott we’ve talked about short-term plans. It doesn’t bother me who they’re talking to as long as they’re talking to good and proper people that are going to be able to take the club on.

“In regard to me, I have enjoyed the role, the coaching and the managing. But I haven’t applied for it and won’t be.

“I know the football club are very happy with how I’ve handled myself and the players in this short space (of time).”
