PORTLAND United manager Brendon King hopes the Blues are “fresh” from their Christmas indulgences ahead of hosting Hamworthy United at the Weyline Stadium today (3pm).

King’s men return to Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division action after rain washed out their clash at Shaftesbury last Saturday.

Portland are currently sixth and the Hammers 13th, but the two sides have already played twice this season with the Blues taking a 4-3 FA Cup extra preliminary round win before a 1-1 draw at the County Ground.

Speaking to Echosport, King said: “Games come at this time of year and people have overindulged. Hopefully they haven’t, they look after themselves and they’re fresh, buzzing and raring to go.

“We obviously didn’t play Saturday so hopefully people will want to be playing.”

He added: “We’ve had a couple of good games against them this season already in terms of the FA Cup game where we beat them at home and went up to their place and drew.

“They’re off the back of a really good result at the weekend (8-1 against Solent), so they’ll be flying.

“They’ve got some good players and it’s a local-ish derby for us.

“It’s going to be a tough one and hopefully the lads haven’t had too much turkey, drank too much over the festive period and we’re good to go.”

Defenders Luke King and Crit Clarke are suspended, while Ryan McKechnie and Ben Morris could return.

Elsewhere, Bridport have no game in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.
