LEIGH Robinson's first game in charge of Dorchester Town ended in a poor 3-1 defeat at former bottom side Beaconsfield Town as the Magpies sank to the foot of the BetVictor Southern Premier South table.

James Ewington's first-half brace gave the Rams a winning platform which they never relinquished and, after Dorchester's Tom Bath headed against the post, a Luke Winsper own goal put them 3-0 up.

Bath won and then scored a penalty for his 17th goal of the season seconds after Jordan Ajanlekoko's header rattled Shane Murhpy's crossbar.

But Dorchester, despite sporadic moments of promise, slipped to a galling ninth away league defeat of the campaign.

Robinson made six changes to the XI that began the 2-2 with Blackfield & Langley on New Year’s Day.

Midfielders Ben Rowthorn and Oli Lowes made their league debuts, while goalkeeper Murphy, right-back Jason Brookes, midfielder Luke Winsper and winger Ben Morris were also handed starts.

Suspended trio Tom Blair, Neil Martin and Nick Hutchings missed out alongside injured Plymouth loanee midfielder Tom Purrington, while Sean Wright was dropped to the bench. Callum Rose was ruled out with an ankle injury.

Striker Klaidi Lolos did not have his loan from Plymouth renewed and there was no place in the squad for midfielder Archie Lovegrove.

Dorchester named no sub goalkeeper, with Sean Wright the most experienced of the five substitutes.

Aside from Wright, prior to kick-off Jack Torniainen, Eder Batista, Alfie Toland and Ben Symes had only played a combined 10 games for the Magpies this season – and their careers.

Searching for a second win in 18 league games, Dorchester began brightly with Rams’ keeper Myles Bowman forced into a solid save before a Jerome Eccleston long throw-in caused worry at the other end.

Oli Lowes then narrowly failed to find top scorer Bath with a flick-on before Beaconsfield took the lead against the run of play.

Another Eccleston long throw was only partially cleared and Ademola Shokunbi’s ball into the box found Ewington, who touched past Murphy in the 16th minute.

Dorchester soaked up the concession and worked their way into dominance of possession without troubling Bowman, but the hosts soon demonstrated their greater cutting edge for 2-0.

Louis Stead released Charlie Losasso down the right and his early low centre undid the Magpies’ defence, Ewington slotting past Murphy to double his tally.

Dorchester did threaten briefly at the end of a disappointing half, hitting the side netting, but the Rams survived the pressure into the break.

Needing a quick goal to halve the deficit, Bath nearly provided one but his downward header from Morris' swinging cross bounced away to safety off the post.

And the miss was amplified in the 49th minute when Winsper could only turn Stead's low cross into his own net past Murphy for 3-0.

Robinson thrust Batista on for Morris in his first change and the Brazilian had only been on the field for eight minutes when he received his first chance, heading Kyle Egan's sumptuous cross over.

Toland then came on for Brookes to make his league debut in the 64th minute but as Dorchester tried to get back into the game, the Rams broke upfield and won a corner.

Losasso's delivery was then crashed against the bar by Ajanlekoko's header but barely a minute elapsed before Dorchester earned a penalty.

Bath collected possession and was felled by Bowman in the 78th minute before dusting himself down to score what proved to be a consolation as Dorchester slumped to the bottom of the league, Beaconsfield taking 21st spot by a point.

Elsewhere, the Magpies were dealt a blow as Hendon recorded a stunning 4-0 win over Weston-super-Mare, although fellow strugglers Yate Town also lost with a 2-0 reverse at Blackfield & Langley.
