CORFE MULLEN 1

PORTLAND VETERANS 4

Andy Barber's Portland Town Veterans have seen a turn around in their fortunes of late and they started the new decade off to a flyer, running out 4-1 winners away to Windgreen Corfe Mullen Veterans First in the Dorset League Veterans West Division clash.

Town recalled Paul Cole and Alex Counter to the squad - the club's all time first and second top goal scorers.

Portland started superbly and could have had three goals before they actually got the first. Shane Maguire was appended in the box for Paul Cole to step up and slot home the resulting penalty.

Cole doubled the lead shortly after and Elliot Gould added a third before the break.

Town made changes throughout the second half with Counter coming on for Cole and grabbing Town's fourth.

Other changes saw Paul Barber come off for James Duncan, Joe Burke on for Colin Upfold and Dave Clifford for John Chester.

After Corfe managed to snatch a late goal to make it 4-1, Barber said: "It’s a great feeling to get the new year off to a winning start. We’ve picked up seven points from the last four games and the guys are enjoying it again.”

Osprey man of the match: Kevin Paice.
