WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley believes the Terras’ 2-1 win at Concord Rangers gives his side “valuable points” in the Vanarama National League South.

After losing captain Josh McQuoid to a hamstring injury, substitute Abdulai Baggie put Weymouth ahead 14 minutes after coming on.

Concord equalised through a goal credited to Michael O’Donoghue as the defender’s corner caused mayhem in the Terras’ box.

But the visitors were pegged back for just two minutes as Yemi Odubade scored a fine effort from an acute angle, although Concord mounted severe pressure in the closing stages as Ben Wells struck a post with a rasping effort.

Speaking to Echosport, Molesley admitted it had been a “scary” finish as the Terras held on to collect their fourth league win on the road this season.

He said: “I’m really pleased, points on the road in this league are always valuable points so we’re delighted.

“It was a little bit scary at the end because we didn’t get ourselves any further ahead than we should’ve done.

“They were always going to rally with the scoreline as it was. It was a tense finale but the boys stood strong, defended when they had to.

“An area of improvement could be when we’ve been on top – it’s the story of our season – can we convert a few more chances to give ourselves a bit more daylight.

“The lads were creating chances, working hard, their attitude’s great and they’re doing all the right things, so I can ask no more.”

Molesley beamed about Baggie’s display – later revealing the winger was set to be used sparingly while nursing a calf niggle until McQuoid’s issue.

“Baggie came on early and had a bit of a tight calf,” Molesley said. “We thought we were going to go for more limited minutes for him, but Josh came off with his hamstring.

“He came on quite early, got his early goal and was a thorn in their side. He played very well and was unlucky not to get that second goal.

“Thommo (Ben Thomson) was up alongside him so I’m disappointed not to put them away and out of sight.

“But the lads deserved the win, they made more than enough chances to win the game and they had to battle and hold on as well.

“I said it at Welling – we’ve had to show all these characteristics. We’ve had to be brave on the ball on a difficult surface, played some good stuff and created a lot of chances.

“We’ve also had to be resilient and stand up and be counted and we certainly were.”

Victory saw the Terras leapfrog Dorking to fifth after Wanderers clinched a late 4-4 draw in a dazzling game with Billericay.

Molesley said: “It’s very tight up there, there’s plenty of twists and turns. We won’t be paying too much attention to the league table at the moment.

“We’re just taking it game by game, doing our best to win the next game and see where it takes us.”
